Richard B. Cawthorne, VL ’60

Richard B. Cawthorne, loving father and grandfather, was born in March of 1937. He was the son of the late Chester and Margaret Cawthorne and brother to the late Beverly Rochelle.

He passed on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the age of 85. He was a life-long resident of NJ. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Paul Cawthorne. He is survived by his three children: David Cawthorne of Dallastown, PA (wife Jennifer and son Joseph), Marianne Wurtemberg of Columbia, NJ (husband John, children Nicholas, John and Meghann) and Barbara Simpson of Smithfield, VA (husband Fred, sons Evan and Austin). He is also survived by his dear companion and partner, Helen Carras.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts at Lehigh University, Richard worked for Bankers Trust in Manhattan, embarking on a 60+ year career in banking, mainly as an investment banker. Richard continued to work even after retiring from Bankers Trust, most recently at Beacon Trust, where he was a managing director and portfolio manager. He continued to do the work he loved even at age 85, and his knowledge and experience earned him the trust of many generations of clients.

Outside of work, Richard was very active as a Lehigh University alumnus and with the Kappa Alpha Society. He was also very active in the church, most recently as a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Richard loved the Jersey shore, boating, and especially time with family.
