Fred Gates McGinnis, 83, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 2, 2026.
Born on January 5, 1943, in Valley Township, PA, Fred was the cherished son of James and Marion McGinnis. He spent his early years in Palmyra, PA, before graduating from Lehigh University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. A proud veteran, Fred served in the United States Marine Corps. His professional journey included roles as a CPA at Price Waterhouse, Financial Executive at Charter Oil Company, and ultimately as the Owner and Principal Executive Recruiter for McGinnis and Associates.
Fred's life was marked by his generosity, humor, and dedication to those he held dear. He found immense joy at the family cabin on Lake Pogamasing in Ontario, Canada. Passionate about community involvement, Fred served as Chairman of the Board for Junior Achievement and was a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. He was also affiliated with The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Association of Finance and Accounting.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara "Bobi" McGinnis; his first wife Sheri McGinnis and their daughters; Meradeth (Damon) Springer and Heather (Jason) Hesse; Bobi's children James (Donna) Edge, Glenda (David) Dickinson, and Heather (Pam) Edge; grandchildren Hannah, Madison, Caitlin, Diana, Molly, Sarah, James, Ryan, John, Rebecca; great-grandchild Blair; siblings Renne Mekosh and Glenn (Lynda) McGinnis; as well as nieces and nephews Brent (Paige) Mekosh, Tara (John) Berggren, Heather Holt, and Rachel (Dennis) Whewell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Fred will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his generous spirit and enduring legacy. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
