Freshman year...We all just joined the house....Greek Week was coming up.....out of the 20+ events at Greek Week, Mr. Lehigh drew the biggest crowd. It was a talent show competition with a sketch, swimwear, and final question competition. It was held a Grace Hall, a big venue in the heart of the campus. Each fraternity picked one person to represent the house. I was surprised that my brothers picked me, and looking back I was honored to be considered the best one to represent the house. I was picked because I was a big partier and that unpredictability would come through at the event. And it did...at the time American Pie was big and my brother James Pontius and I practiced the strip scene in the bedroom for a couple of hours. We spent most of the time betting that if we did that well, it would put me ahead of the competition. After practice, I thought it was important to add a touch to the swimwear competition. I didn't just want to wear trunks and that's it...I needed a shtick. So James had a piece of red cloth lying around that looked like trunks Santa Claus would wear. You always see Santa in his suit but we thought - what if he went down to the Carribean, what would he wear? So we got a Santa cap, got the cloth, and glued cotton balls around the edges. It funniest part was the cloth barely wrapped around my waist and looked more like a diaper than trunks! It was freakin hilarious.

The performance was great and I ended up getting second place. But my fondest memory is being with James planning out that wacky performances. We were having fun together. It wasn't about me on stage by myself. It was about us having fun.
